What is autism?

Autism is a difference in how a person sees the world. As a neurodevelopmental condition, it can affect a person’s thought process, behaviour, and impulse control.

Considered to be on a spectrum, not everyone will experience autism in the same way. One person may find socialising difficult, while another may instead struggle to regulate emotions. Of course, it’s possible to experience both of those traits, too.

Why choose a private autism assessment near Wolverhampton?

Current waiting times for an NHS autism assessment in Wolverhampton are around 48 months, meaning you or your child may have to wait up to 3 years to start the process

Going private means you skip these lengthy queues to get a diagnosis faster, without the additional stress of waiting. Plus, as doctors use the same NICE guidelines as NHS clinicians, you don’t compromise on quality of care either.

Our private autism assessments near Wolverhampton provide you with the following benefits:

Adult autism assessment near Wolverhampton

In the UK, more than 700,000 people are autistic, meaning you aren’t alone if you think you’re experiencing traits of the neurodivergent condition.

Having an autism diagnosis means you’re able to access bespoke support that can make day-to-day life easier to manage, whether that’s help at home or adjustments in the workplace. Plus, receiving that diagnosis helps you understand yourself that bit better, too.

Our adult autism assessments near Wolverhampton provide the answers you need, without the lengthy wait times.

Child autism assessment near Wolverhampton

Over 1 in 100 children in the UK are diagnosed with autism. Going through adolescence is already a difficult time for many, but for those with undiagnosed autism, it can be even harder.

When your child receives an autism diagnosis, they’ll be able to access bespoke SEND support to help make school easier. Plus, local council services may offer additional sensory or respite support to help both the child and their parents or carers.

Our child autism assessment near Wolverhampton means your child can receive personalised guidance both in and out of school.

What’s included in an autism assessment near Wolverhampton?

Our six-step process is designed to diagnose autism quickly and accurately. We use the same DSM-5 and NICE guidelines as NHS diagnostic tests do. Read below for what you can expect.

01

Initial screening

You’ll receive a questionnaire and a sliding scale test via email from us. These help us to build an understanding of how autism might impact you. You won’t be charged for this unless you go to the next step with us.

02

Additional background information

We’ll contact your loved ones to speak to them about how autism impacts you in your day-to-day life. Before doing this, we’ll ask for your permission to reach out to them.

03

Clinical interview

Now we have the relevant background information, you’ll be invited to our clinic for an in-person chat or sent a link to an online meeting so we can discuss your developmental history. Approximately 60-90 minutes.

04

Observational Assessment

The next step is for us to see how you handle everyday communication, social interactions, and day-to-day life through an observational assessment. We use ADOS-2 tools here for accuracy.

05

Diagnostic decision

Once all our diagnostic tests are completed, we’ll assess the findings using DSM-5 criteria. When we have an answer, we’ll invite you back to discuss your diagnosis in person.

06

Receive your report

After you’ve received your diagnosis, we’ll send you a full report via email within 7 days. Here, you’ll receive documentation, a confirmation of your diagnosis, and recommendations on treatment plans (if applicable).

Please note: In more complex cases, our Specialist Clinicians may need to seek advice from a Consultant Psychiatrist. In these instances, reports may be delayed past 7 working days. We will always keep you informed.
